BOGOTA (Reuters ) - Colombian national police confiscated a shipment destined for Ecuador on Monday after stopping a car in the southern part of the country.

Police said that they seized thousands of rounds and 111 pistols worth $22,000, as well as seven rifles in the Putumayo Province of Colombia, which borders Ecuador.

In recent years, Colombia has seen a rise in the arms trade. A Reuters investigation from 2022 revealed that Mexican cartels paid for cocaine shipments using guns.
