North American Morning Briefing: Stocks Seen -2-

According to Dealogic data, more than one-fourth of 600 companies that went public in 2020 or 2021 via a traditional IPO traded at less than $2 a piece as of Friday's close. This includes Oatly Group AB, which makes oat milk, and loanDepot Inc. which is an online lender. SPACs (special-purpose acquisition companies) are another reason that many companies went public during the boom in mergers.

Individual investors have increased their stock holdings in the most volatile year since 2008, when global markets were at their highest point. U.S. equity mutual funds and exchange-traded fund have attracted over $100 billion in net inflows in this year. This is one of the largest amounts in EPFR data since 2000.

Last week, regulators presented a proposal that would allow some stocks to be listed in price increments as small as one-tenths of a penny. For example, Uber Technologies Inc. shares trade at $26.20. The proposal would allow for prices as high as $26.204.

The National Association of Home Builders publishes its index, which tracks sentiment among single-family homebuilders. This year, the NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index fell in every month. The November preliminary reading was 39, down from the October reading of 45 and September's reading of 54.
